In terms of the ergonomics,
it’s mostly good. Keeping the
D-pad is a great choice, and
having the extra physical
shortcuts is something we
loved about the older X Series
models. You also have the
added benefit of touchscreen
swipe menus for more control.
However, the ‘Q’ button is too
near the thumb grip, which
we struggled with slightly.
Being Fujifilm, you can still
customise most of your button
functions and map them to
your own style of shooting, so
this isn’t a huge issue at all.
For video shooters, it’s all
good news. Footage looks
crisp, vibrant and appealing
to the eye. The 4K runs up to
60fps and does a great job,
looking exceptionally sharp
and full of detail. You can
apply Film Simulations, use
the F-Log, and all frame rates
allow for the use of the image
stabilisation and autofocus.
The same story is true of
the 1080p Full HD. Right up
to 120fps everything looks
beautiful and you also have the
240fps ultra-slow motion.
The plus side is that this will
let you use both IBIS and AF,
which is a real bonus. The joy
of watching action come to a
near-grinding halt is endless.
However, there is a noticeable
amount of aliasing to be found
here that means it’s not as
clean as the other video on
offer. That said, for sheer fun
factor, it’s a great addition
and hopefully something that
can be updated in a firmware
patch at some point.
The new tilting screen is
ideal for vloggers or any other
piece-to-camera work. It’s
crisp, bright and implemented
extremely well. This is a true
win for camp Fujifilm.

Perfect isn’t a word we bandy
