The owl and the bee
by Simon Roy
The little owls had been nesting at this
site on a local farm for almost 20 years.
During the summer months, the owls and
owlets were often seen on the farm track.
I constructed a wooden hide so I could
photograph them without too much
disturbance. On this occasion, I had been
in the hide for a while when the handsome
male bird dropped onto an old gate post
in front of me. The scene was stunning,
with the owl perched among wildflowers
and backed by a field of summer barley.
