FIXES YOU CAN MAKE
Long exposures have a calm and serene mood, which
comes from the contrast between the blurred areas
and the sharp. Whatever you can do to help that is
good. For instance, if there are lots of rocks in the water
in a shot, try removing them to make the area cleaner.
Use the Patch Tool (J) to draw around areas at the
bottom of the frame, then drag it to a clean area to
remove them from the scene for a simpler foreground.
Reduce noise and sensor dirt
3 Very long exposures can produce noise in your pictures
– both grain and colour noise. Smooth it out by clicking
on the Detail tab and zooming into at least 100% magnification.
To remove colour noise – red, green and blue speckles – move the
Color slider to the right. For textured grain, move the Luminance
slider to the right. If the exposure was very long, you’ll also find
coloured ‘hot pixels’. Click Open Image and pick the Spot Healing
Brush. Set it to a small Size and pick Content Aware in the Options
bar. Run it over the pixels and dirt to remove them.
